What is a metric?

When looking at metrics and measurement it is important to determine what is a metric and what is not. Companies can spend an enormous amount of time and resources measuring the wrong things. Metrics

• Measure results associated with objectives
• Drive continuous performance improvement
• Can be easily calculated
• Can be compared easily
• Should be limited to only 3-5 for any specific outcome or objective
• Are continuously reviewed and refined
